Digital and Transformation Leads

The key objective of this role is to support Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and GP practices to improve services. They may do this through the use of digital tools to help you access your GP, and improve ways of working.

The digital and transformation lead also looks at other ways of improving quality, efficiency, and the experience for patients.

They work with clinical and operational teams within a PCN to create a vision to guide improvements and identify opportunities for positive transformation. They will also provide the inspiration, resource and tools to deliver changes in a collaborative way.

What can a Digital and Transformation Lead help with?

The digital and transformation lead will usually have experience in business or service improvement along with a good understanding of general practice, both clinically and operationally.

This means their understanding and oversight can be used to help with:

  • Improving patient access and staff experience
  • Monitoring capacity and demand
  • Building collaborative relationships with other practices, PCNs, and key stakeholders
  • Identifying and supporting relevant training needs
  • Making sure practices are using the latest technology where appropriate
  • Reviewing websites, social media and practice communications to make sure they meet the latest guidance and offer what practices and patients need
  • Analyse and understand data from a variety of sources to inform PCN-wide initiatives
  • Work with practices and practice managers to understand what solutions are out there that they may benefit from.

What do they not do?

The digital and transformation lead won’t deal with day to day IT maintenance or issues, like updating smart cards or dealing with printers.

It is a leadership role to help practices deliver general medical services, PCN objectives, and look at what help practice managers, PCN managers and partners need.
